Concordia University (Psychology)
My name is Samiya, currently a Clinic Manager at Dr. Bill's Learning Center and a senior at Concordia University majoring in Psychology. I have been working with children since the age of 10, starting at church, as the senior junior nurse. Throughout my High School experience I volunteered at my local Park District as well as church, working with children. As a senior in High School I was accepted into a Mentorship program, where I was an assistant to a second grade teacher located in Bellwood, IL for 1 year. It was a pleasure working with 15-20 students, helping plan lessons, and substituting while the teacher was absent. I have a passion working with children, but more importantly, helping them exceed beyond expectations in their personal life as well as academically. I have worked with children beginning as an infant to the age of 15.
The summer of 2015, I was an Assistant Director at a Daycare located in Melrose Park, where I was a teacher to a classroom of ages 5-8. Within this summer, I planned lessons, activities, and adventures to make the summer as fun as possible. Within the school year, myself and other staff members, helped children with homework, essentially being an after school program. Currently, I am a clinic Manager performing many tasks while fulfilling my position. I facilitate the building, ensuring a safe and clean environment, schedule appointments, and handle all secretarial work. However, I also work directly with children, tutoring as well as mentoring. My goal is to have any child that cross my path reach their highest potential mentally and academically. One way to ensure my goal is to reach out as possible to local areas providing as much help as possible.
I am currently a Sunday School teacher for ages 10-12 and in the past taught a class for Vacation Bible School for one week in June 2015. I prize myself on having substantial grammar as well as speaking profoundly. I have written many essays within High School and college, therefore I have much experience with proofreading.
I look forward to working with as many children as possible, providing great information with many experiences in a fun-filled but educational manner. Although I currently work full time, I am looking to have a more flexible schedule to reach out to as many students as possible. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am currently a Sunday School teacher at the church I attend. I teach Bible lessons every Sunday regarding the weeks scriptures or chosen topic. I also teach a class at Vacation Bible School each year for one week in June.
As a Assistant Director/Teacher, I worked with ages 5-8 and sometimes 9-12. I helped tutor these children after school, helping with Elementary School homework. The homework assignments included all subjects including math, writing, science, and reading from grades kindergarten to 6th grade.
As a college student, I took several classes based upon speech and public speaking. In addition, I have presented presentations and projects at multiple school based events for the past three years. I also speak publicly at church regarding multiple topics.
