University of Illinois at Chicago (Master's)
I am an experienced educator specializing in elementary school math. I have two Master's Degree and PhD. ABD. from University of Illinois at Chicago. I have taught at the university level, the high school level, and tutored at the elementary school level. My last teaching experience was at UIC where I taught Statistics. Currently I am a stay at home mom who is running a home-based preschool in the mornings and tutoring elementary school math in evenings and weekends at my house.
My passion for teaching and tutoring has grown throughout the years. I am a life-long learner and combine my lessons with new ideas, best practices, and tried-and-true activities. I have been teaching and tutoring for 7 years in a variety of settings and with a wide variety of students, so I have truly learned to differentiate my lessons to meet the needs of individual students. I enjoy teaching all types of Math and want Math to be fun when I teach it. I use a large number of manipulatives or hands-on devices to get the point across. Math is not hard you just have to take everything one step at a time and be slow and steady. I try to make the learning process as enjoyable as possible by breaking it down into manageable pieces. Over a period of time this helps students retain the material better. I try my best to tailor the learning process based on the students learning temperament and establish a satisfying mutual relationship.
I believe learning should be fun and effective, and that is my purpose in every lesson that I teach. I like to build on the students' interests and what is already working for them to help them succeed in areas where they would like to improve.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
