About Alysha

I have a B.A. degree in Early Childhood Education with a minor in Special Education, which I obtained through Kendall College. I have worked with children ages 6 weeks to 12 years for 10+ years in daycare and public school settings. For most of my teaching career, I held the position of an Early Childhood Teacher. Using Creative Curriculum in my early childhood classrooms, I helped children with developmental milestones and self-help skills, as well as, introducing them to academics. I am currently working in public schools as a Special Education Program Assistant. Under the direction of certified teachers, I assist students with special needs, including but not limited to, students who have been diagnosed with Autism and developmental delays. I have always loved to help others by teaching them the things that they need to know in order to grow into successful people. Teaching has helped me to learn from those that I teach, while building professional bonds along the way!

Most of my experience is in Early Childhood as I have helped students with Kindergarten Readiness Skills, and K-3rd grade Reading, Math, and Writing skills.

I have experience with helping students to set academic goals, and creating activities that will help to promote those goals. I believe that it is best to set goals, plan and implement lessons that will support the achievement of those goals, and then to track progress. I also believe in challenging students, but not overwhelming them. It is important that students are a part of their goal setting, so that they will understand what it is that they want to achieve.

I am currently a Special Education Program Assistant with District 87 Schools. This is my third year working with the public schools assisting students with special needs, including, but not limited to, working with students who have been diagnosed with Autism.

I look forward to working with you, and assisting you with achieving your educational goals!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
