About Deborah

Bio

I have been teaching students at the college level for seven years, but I also love working with younger students. I began tutoring children in writing, reading, and math when I was in high school and fell in love with teaching. I continued to tutor throughout college, helping students engage with material which which they struggled. I find tremendous joy helping students overcome obstacles and assisting them with learning on their own. This joy led me to pursue a PhD in Art History.

I am currently a Lecturer in Art History at UCSB, teaching courses in my specialty of Latin American art. I have been studying Art History for over 15 years, have traveled the world to see art in person, and have written about it extensively.

I love working with students one-on-one. I am patient, yet firm, and infuse my teaching with sense of humor. I am happy to work with a student on completing a particular project or assignment, assisting with studying, or working through difficult concepts.

As a teacher, I have a lot of experience speaking in front of crowds. I have spoken at a number of professional conferences and have seen many successful and unsuccessful speaking techniques. I learned many public speaking tips and techniques in High School, where I was the president of the Speech and Debate club for 3 years and participated in many speech competitions.

Knowledgeable, patient, and helpful

Though she is not a philosophy tutor she was still a huge help in guiding me through my midterm paper! Definitely recommended.
