My greatest passion in life is teaching. I have spent the last 15 years working with children from a wide range of backgrounds and abilities. I have more than 7 years of experience in teaching my own social studies classes, and another 5 years substitute teaching. I have held teaching certificates in Michigan, Georgia, Illinois and with the Department of Defense Schools in Europe. I have taught both honors and special needs students to prepare for state tests. Nothing is more satisfying than helping a person grow and succeed.
I specialize in U.S. Government, U.S. and World History, Economics, World Geography, and Sociology. My goal with all of my students is to provide a challenging but fun instruction. When possible, I like to have the student involved in the decision process and goal setting. With that said, I do realize that there are educational benchmarks and deadlines that need to be met. I can either create my own curriculum based on state standards or assist with class work that has been already assigned in class. It all depends on the needs of the student, which should be established through a free consultation meeting before the first tutoring session. Periodic assessments and progress reports will be provided as well to make sure the students needs are being met.
I have a fairly flexible schedule and am willing to meet students at their home or at another agreed upon location. I do require a 2 hour cancellation policy, but am willing to reschedule when possible.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I took a class in college dealing with special needs (which included ADHD needs). I have also had students in my classes with this disorder. I have also spent the last 2 1/2 years subbing in primarily in special needs classes.
I have over 7 years experience teaching U.S History and have held teaching certifications in 3 different states and for DoDD schools.
I took a college class on special needs students in college. I have worked with special needs students both with students in my own classes(even designed lessons and co-taught lessons with a special ed teacher) and as a substitute teacher/aid. Most of my subbing jobs for the past 2 1/2 years have been in special needs classes. I worked as a job coach 2 months last year(as a long term sub).
