About Anthony

Bio

I'm a Ph.D. physicist at Fermi National Labs, working on the CMS experiment at CERN. I have degrees in physics and electrical engineering, as well as a minor in math. I've taught seven college physics classes, as well as a college calculus class. I've tutored math and physics on and off for the past 16 years, including college, SAT, high school, and middle school students.

I've taught seven college physics classes, as well as a college calculus class. I've tutored math and physics on and off for the past 16 years, including college, SAT, high school, and middle school students.

I like tutoring for the personal interaction and personal attention I can give each student. It lets me help the student work out specific difficulties with the subject, and often reach a deeper level of understanding than what can be achieved in a classroom. I have a deep passion for math and science, and sometimes I can share that with the student. It feels great to enable a student to glimpse the awesome wonder of nature within a deceptively dull looking subject, as well as teaching the discipline of precise mathematical thought, which is far more useful than any one subject.

Math subjects I can teach: SAT and GRE Math (I got a perfect score on my math GREs), pre-algebra, algebra, pre-calculus, calculus 1, 2, 3, trigonometry, statistics, philosophical logic, binary logic, linear algebra, differential equations, and linear systems.

I will have a very open schedule after the end of September, but feel free to contact me any time.

C++,

C++

I've worked in C++ on a daily basis for the past 7 years. In that time I've written about 200,000 lines of C++ code. In that time I've trained a number of students and introduced them to C++ programming.
UNIX

UNIX

I've worked on unix systems a daily basis for the past 7 years, and am very comfortable with the unix command line and shell scripting. In that time I've trained a number of students and introduced them Unix. It seems a bewildering at first, but most students take to it very quickly.

Math

Electrical Engineering,

Electrical Engineering

I got my bachelor's in ECE from Rutgers in 2008, along with a special prize for the highest GPA in my year among electrical engineering students. Together with my physics background, I have a very deep understanding of electromagnetism and practical applications. Professionally, I've used my EE background when building sensor electronics for particle physics experiments.
Finite Math,

Finite Math

I have a rigorous background in mathematics from physics as well as extensive experience in probability and finite math from my engineering background. I've tutored for about 15 years and I've taught university classes. I can help with topics such as probability, combinatorics, matrices, Markov processes, graph theory, set theory, mathematical models, Logic, and more.
Logic,

Logic

I took a logic course in college, but very quickly started officially co-teaching the class. Logic is very close to binary arithmetic, which I'm deeply familiar with. So I ended up helping a classroom full of philosophy students grapple with this rather mathematical subject.

Martial Arts

I'm a 2nd degree black belt (nidan) in Aikido, particularly the Kokikai style. I've been practicing since 2003, with 13 years of active training experience. I've also trained in a variety of other arts. I've taught Aikido classes at the University of Chicago.

Knowledgeable and very patient

He knows and understands calculus. He gave me skills to draw the answers to thoroughly understand the material. Anthony has a voice and disposition that are very calming.
