About Kimberly

I am a mom of 4. I have helped them since young ages with their difficulties in all subjects. They are now middle schoolers and high schoolers. Before helping my own kids, I had tutored as a volunteer since my high school years. I have worked with students of all ages. My favorite areas are high school and college level math and science, but I have the resources to help middle school and elementary aged children as well.

I am an educator by profession. I have a Bachelor's in Chemistry, which required classes in various sciences as well as math through differential equations. I worked in industry for 5 years, and then taught middle school science. I am accredited for 6-12 composite science. I am knowledgeable and enjoy all types of science as well as math. I am happy to tutor other subjects as well.

In addition to working through a student's homework, I have access to many resources. My goal is to teach concepts differently than they've been taught elsewhere. Hands-on, silliness, connecting to something the student is interested in are all methods I use to engage the student and help them understand the concepts. I will also expect work from the student. It is their grade and their life. I can only help, but they have to care about their education and be willing to work.

I am passionate about learning, and my goal is to help students learn how to think and process through concepts. My hope is that I can get you to a place where you no longer need a tutor. Let's get started on bringing you or your student's confidence and skills up where you want them to be!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I have been tutoring ACT for the past coyple of years and been helping students improve their scores.

ACT Science

I have tutored students for the ACT forbthe past three years. I have a chemistry degree which required many hours of math in addition to science courses. I will work with the student to understand and analyze the science information portion of the ACT. I will also work with your student on test taking strategies to reduce anxiety. My students have improved their scores by 5-8 points in the science area.

Algebra 2

I recently have helped several students successfully complete their college algebra courses.

Bible Studies

I have studied scripture for over 30 years. I have not attended seminary, but am familiar with the majority of the Bible. I understand it historically as well as spiritually. I went to a christian high school and took Bible classes throughout my high school career in addition to studying on my own.

Chemistry

I have a Chemistry degree from Texas A&M University. I have taught science and I love science! I have helped many students bring up their grades in Chemistry by connecting it in ways that are interesting. I also show students how to use units to make calculations almost impossible to get wrong.

Elementary Math

I have taught math at various levels. I myself am experienced in math past college calculus. I have tutored elementary students since I was in high school. Recently, I developed and taught a curriculum to a third grader who was struggling in math. we measured her success by her ability to master addition and multiplication facts in addition to improved performance at school.

Geometry

I am strong in all areas of high school and entry college math. I have been tutoring algebra and geometry for the past two years consistently.

Prealgebra

I have had a lot of background in Math. I have helped my children with learning difficulties be successful in pre-algebra and Algebra. I tutored in math when I was high school, when I taught middle school in my twenties and now with my own kids.

Special Needs

I have 12 years of experience working with my children as well as children in the community with special needs. I have a passion for teaching social skills as well academic, emotional, and physical skills. I am a mom of children with special needs, I have worked as an inclusion aid for children with special needs for 1.5 years and I have volunteered in various areas with kids with special needs for 10 years.

I have sat in on several years of social skills therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy sessions and practiced those skills on a daily basis in my own home. I have worked in inclusion preschool settings to assist children with special needs. Many times, I used the same techniques to work with the regular ed preschool students. My strength lies in my patience and persistence in getting children to use their words (and eventually the appropriate words) to express their feelings and desires.

I am familiar with PECS, picture communicating system. I use many sensory diet tools(rice bin, squishy balls, snug blankets, weighted blankets). I use movement in all teaching sessions. I generally incorporate specific motor skills into fun activities, the kids work even when they don't know it!

I truly love helping children learn. It is a fascinating process.
