About Roman

I have been mentoring students since 1996. After all, I learned one thing: while you teach someone, explaining complicated points, you also learn. This is a real joy for me to hear from my students "oh, now I clearly see why!". My love of teaching has been acknowledged by Outstanding Teaching Award from University of Pittsburgh.

I hold PhD from the University of Pittsburgh in the field of Synthetic Organic Chemistry, and MS Degree from Moscow State University in Materials Science (inorganic chemistry). I worked in cancer research in drug discovery, invented electrophoretic displays for Amazon Kindle and today I am a leading scientist in technological/chemical company.

I specialized in tutoring Organic, Inorganic and General Chemistry. My role as the teacher is to enable students to learn chemistry through understanding mechanisms and basic theoretical models behind every advanced topic. I keep my student challenged but always help them to go through.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Organic Chemistry

I have PhD in synthetic organic chemistry (2008) and Outstanding Teaching Award (2005) from the University of Pittsburgh, worked for 3 years in cancer research/drug discovery. I start mentoring students and then younger scientists in 1996 and still do this as a team leader in chemical/technological company. My teaching philosophy is based on understanding of mechanisms of organic reactions and systematic approach, which help my students learning new material faster and with joy.
