About Christian

Since I was a child, I have had a passion for learning. Instead of playing videogames, I used to read books and encyclopedias. When I was in my two final years of high school, I was a candidate for the International Baccalaureate (IB), an international program of study offered around the world. Most people had difficulties in the Theory of Knowledge course, because it is an introduction to philosophy. Since I was very good at it, I tutored some people in the course, and helped them to write their essays. What I love about tutoring is that people leave the classroom not only being more knowledgeable, but also feel more secure and confident about themselves.

As part of my school requirements, I also did the social service called Creativity, Action and Service, where I assisted children of shanty towns in Lima, Peru. Subsequently, I worked with children with special needs, as well as learning disabilities and speech problems.

I took the Math IB Standard Level course and the exam subsequently, which comprises algebra (summation, logarithms, sequences: arithmetic and geometric, binomial theorem), functions, circular functions, trigonometry, vectors, statistics, probability, and calculus (limits, differentiation, integration, applications).

I took the Language and Literature Spanish Higher Level test, as part of the IB. Also, I am a native Spanish speaker, which means I know by first hand how Spanish is written, spoken and used in a daily basis. I know the Spanish dialects of castellano (Spain), Peru and Argentina.

I have been learning English since I was 5 years old, which makes me proficient in the speaking, listening, writing and reading skills. I have also taken the First Certificate in English, as well as the TOEFL iBT where I got 100. Moreover, I took the English B HL test in IB, in which I got a 7, the highest possible score. I also did my extended essay in English B.

Apart from being academic, I also love to dance. I have extensive training and experience and ballroom dancing, especially latin dances, which include cha cha, rumba, salsa, merengue, bachata, samba, etc. Salsa is a dance genre that I personally love, and I would be so glad to teach it.

If you want to learn how Spanish is really spoken and written, feel free to contact me. I also can provide tutoring in English writing, public speaking, algebra, as well as ballroom dancing in general.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Ballroom Dancing

I have extensive training and experience and ballroom dancing, especially latin dances. Prior to that, I studied contemporary and classical dance, which is an excellent background for ballroom. I was also a student of Carlos Begazo, a professional salsa dancer and champion.

I know cha cha, rumba, salsa, merengue, bachata, samba, hustle, tango, etc. Last year, I participated in an interstate ballroom showcase, held in Woodridge, IL.

Reading

I learned to read when I was 4 years old. I devoured encyclopedias and books by volumes, while children were playing some video games that don't exist anymore. I have the TOEFL iBT exam (score of 100), which includes a Reading section. I have also taken the English B Higher Level exam of the International Baccalaureate, as well as the Spanish Language and Literature Higher Level exam. All these tests have a great deal of Reading comprehension.

Salsa Dancing

I have extensive training and experience and ballroom dancing, especially latin dances. Prior to that, I studied contemporary and classical dance, which is an excellent background for ballroom. I was also a student of Carlos Begazo, a professional salsa dancer and champion.

Since I am from Peru, a country where salsa is widely known, I feel the rhythm naturally and I am very seasoned in the social dancing as well as performance. Besides, I also know cha cha, rumba, salsa, merengue, bachata, samba, hustle, tango, etc. Last year, I participated in an interstate ballroom showcase, held in Woodridge, IL.
