My passions are English, learning, and teaching. Graduating with a 3.92 GPA, I hold a Master's degree in Literature and Composition Rhetoric and specialize in the use and style of writing as well as grammar and mechanics. I have two years' experience tutoring middle and high school age students, and as a tutor, I find no better reward than seeing the look in students' eyes when they achieve understanding. My desire: to break down a complicated lesson to simplify it for easier understanding. My goal: to bring students from their current abilities to where they need to be. This guarantees each student receives an individualized tutor plan that best suits him or her in achieving the standard core competencies of English.
My tutoring style includes a holistic approach to understanding. That is, I will ask a student at varying times to physically re-write whole sentences, as opposed to simply verbalizing the correct form; read sentences or passages aloud to listen for style, tone, clarity, and sentence flow; as well as listen to me read aloud. Because the brain uses different areas to process different types of incoming information, I believe that performing each of these activities not only teaches to the learning strengths of both visual and auditory learners but also expands the student's learning to include approaches they may not otherwise use.
I will assign homework relating to the current session's lesson to be due at the following session. I will not ask students to complete assignments without first explaining the lesson. I believe homework should not be a puzzle, but should reinforce those lessons learned.
I offer a free initial consultation between the student, parent, and me. If you need to cancel a session, please notify me 24-hours in advance to avoid charges and to schedule a make-up session. I look forward to hearing from you and helping your student excel in English and writing.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
