Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have taught all subject areas at the elementary level for 19 years. I have been trained extensively through District 59 in the Write Tools method of writing and all the common core standards for reading, writing, math, science and social studies. I have been a reading resource teacher at the elementary level and tutored students in reading, math, and writing including a home bound student where I was his exclusive teacher.

Phonics

I have experience in teaching k-2 for 19 years. I have had extensive training on Words Their Way, Jolly phonics, direct instruction and other strategies for teaching phonics through the school district I teach in.

Study Skills

I have tutored home bound students and students lacking in the area of study skills. Through 19 years of teaching I have developed many strategies to help students with their study skills, teaching kids the how and why of studying. I have put in place many individual plans for students in my classroom that struggle with organizational and study skills and have helped those students meet grade-level and personal goals through those plans.
