I have been teaching for the last 10 years. I am focused on working with children with special needs although I have also tutored several general education students in Math, Science and English/ Language Arts. I prefer to work with students using whatever materials are necessary for them to understand the concepts and be successful both with me and their regular classroom teacher. I am available after school and in the evenings . I feel that it is important to keep up their skills through the summer so I am available in the summer as well. I have worked with all grades from Kindergarten to High school. I also am skilled in sign language and have found that to be helpful in working with many students. Ms. N has turned my average and low grade child into an all A student. My daughter still has her challenges, but Ms. N is patient, caring, professional, and very intuitive to your child's needs. She is creative in new teaching techniques to figure out ways for children to learn. My daughter loves her tutoring sessions and even during the summer months of having tutoring twice a week, my daughter never complained of having to "work". She also enjoys Ms. N's techniques and creativity. I love that Ms. N remains professional, strict, yet caring and supportive. She maintains structure and strict attention during her lessons which keeps my daughter on track. I would recommend Ms. N!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I have been working with students on study skills and organization for the last 8 years as a special education teacher. I have taken courses on organization and it's relationship to learning. Study skills are a basis for all special education courses as there are many methods of studying and not all work for everyone. I utilize planners, post-its, and notecards regularly to assist in studying.
