About Sherri

I am a graduate of Northern Illinois University with a Bachelor's Degree in Communications. I have experience as a Substitute Teacher, duties of a Reading Specialist, and Title One Aide.

I have worked in one on one and in group settings with Gen Ed and Special Education Students. I would love the opportunity to be a hardworking, passionate tutor for an interested student. As soon as I read the description of the program, I knew I was a well-qualified candidate.

My experiences include English, Math, Reading and Reading Comprehension just to name a few. With my help, students have learned to write essays, understand skip counting, and recite and explain what they have read in their own words. I have experience working with preschool thru third grade.

I have also worked with small groups of fourth thru sixth grade. Through these experiences, I have learned how to best teach each age group. For example, I created fun math games to teach my second graders addition but I gave my sixth graders points which add up to weekly prizes of being the student of the week to boost excitement and to help prepare for math exams.

I am passionate about helping students improve in all academic subjects. I still remember one teacher thanking me because the confidence level in her student had risen significantly and she was now improving in her coursework! I am confident that my passion and experience are the qualities your child needs to excel in their coursework.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a graduate of Northern Illinois University with a Bachelor's Degree in Communications. I currently work in an elementary school setting with a diverse group of children ranging from Special Education to General Education. We focus on English, Math, Reading and Reading Comprehension. Because each child learns at a different pace, patience is very important. My experience has shown that sometimes the most trying student can be the one with the best potential.

I have experience as a Substitute Teacher, duties of a Reading Specialist, and Title One Aide. I have the skill to tutor this grade range. I have experience with working with a Title One Program in a school district. With that experience I worked one on one and with small groups of children who could not master a subject in a normal classroom setting. That one on one attention that I would give each student and tailoring a curriculum to that child’s learning level has proven to boost reading and math scores significantly. I have the gift of sharing information in a way that others will learn, grasp the concepts, and understand the input.
