I have been teaching in many capacities for over 25 years. I began my career as a Junior High math and language arts teacher. Later, I began working with tutors and students while supervising a literacy program at two major libraries. Most recently, I have been working with adults, teaching English as a Second Language and also a Transition/Bridge class for adults planning their career and educational paths. I work one -on-one with students on many occasions. I am prepared to administer tests and assessments to determine and evaluate any given students level in reading and math. I am passionate about helping all of my students gain confidence and success!
(Also, I am a mother of two Illinois college graduates. Education has always been a priority and highly respected in my household!)
I completed many hours of course work in math education at both the undergraduate and graduate level. I had 8 years teaching middle school math and also workplace math skills to adults for the past 6 years.
Much of my recent teaching/tutoring experience has been working with English Second Language learners. I continue to develop professionally in this field through seminars, workshops and conferences that I attend annually. I have a way of making the learning process in grammar, reading, vocabulary building fun and meaningful!
I am available to meet to discuss your learning objectives and to give you more details on my expectations as your private tutor. My schedule is somewhat flexible, as I am working part-time right now. Let's make a plan to help you be successful in achieving your educational goals! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
