Over the past 35 years I have worked as a human service and chemical dependency college instructor, special education teacher with blind, learning disabled, and behavior disordered children, education director (principal), activity therapist in psychiatric hospitals, counselor, social worker, as well as a certified clinical hypnotherapist. While in college, I worked for many years as an instructor in CPR, first aid, swimming, and ski patrol emergency care provider.

I have always excelled in English, spelling, grammar, composition, and writing paragraphs, essays, reports, and research papers. In high school I loved English so much, that I took 5 extra English, literature, and writing courses every semester just for the pure fun of it! As a tutor, my teaching style is primarily based on my student's learning style, utilizing a variety of modalities. Having traveled throughout the United States and to many countries, I enjoy working with students of all cultures. My hours for tutoring are flexible. I look forward to the possibility of helping you access, strengthen, and unleash your inner abilities.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Career Development

Are you trying to select a college major, choose your first career, improve your skills in your present job, or considering a career change? If so, clinical hypnotherapy can assist you in discovering your inner skills, abilities, and passions, as well as overcome perceived obstacles to job productivity and your professional success. I am a clinical hypnotherapist, graduate of the Hypnotherapy Institute of Spokane in Spokane, WA, and certified by the American Council of Hypnotist Examiners. In addition, I hold a Master of Education Degree from Keene State College in Keene, NH, and completed many additional courses in counseling, assesment, addictions, and educational administration from other colleges.
As a former college instructor and advisor,I served as a resource to my students as they embarked upon a decision making process of selecting careers, majors, courses, schedules, and practicums. As a clinical hypnotherapist, I assist clients into the hypnotic trance state to access their inner resources to decrease performance anxiety and fears, clear emotional and creative blocks, release self-defeating behaviors, resolve conflicts, improve communication and relationships with co-workers, customers, and supervisors, enhance self-esteem, improve performance in tests and public speaking, discover inner talents, and unleash creative ideas for that next professional project. While in the trance state, you are awake, relaxed, and in full control of your actions, as you access your subconscious mind to acheive your personal and career goals. In each hypnotherapy session, we focus on a very specific goal, with different techniques used in each session.

College Counseling

I am Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist by the American Council of Hypnotist Examiners, and complete continuing education courses at a vocational school with a credentialed clinical hypnotherapy instructor every 2 years in order to keep my certification current. I graduated from the Hypnotherapy Institute of Spokane. I assist clients in reducing addictions, compulsions, stress, anxiety, phobias, grief, insomnia, self-defeating behaviors, and enhancing self-esteem, relationships, and performance in tests, public speaking, and sports. I also possess a Master's Degree in Education with a concentration in Emotional Disturbance, and many additional courses in psychology, counseling, and chemical dependency.

Our first session consists of a self-assessment, interview, education about hypnotherapy, and hypnotic trance work. Future sessions consist primarily of trance work. While in trance you are awake, conscious, and in full control of yourself as you access your creative imagination, release feelings and behaviors that are no longer serving you, and effect changes to enhance your emotional and physical well-being.

Dyslexia

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and Special Education with coursework in developmental disabilities, emotional disturbance, and learning disabilities including dyslexia. I also have a Master's Degree in Special Education with additional coursework in learning disabilities. This was completed at Keene State College in Keene, NH. I have 31 graduate credit hours in educational administration and special education administration from the University of Denver in Denver, CO. I have over 10 years of experience as a special education teacher, private tutor, and education director at schools for students with learning disabilities, including dyslexia.

Public Speaking

As a teacher,I can provide tutoring in public speaking on a educational, cognitive, intellectual, rational, conscious, academic, and skill-building level. As a certified clinical hypnotherapist, I can assist you into the hypnotic trance state, allowing you to access your creative imagination as you work on a subconscious level to overcome fears, anxieties, phobias, low-self-esteem, and release inhibiting false core beliefs about yourself and self-defeating behaviors. We work past, present, and future. The approach is interactive and client centered. While in trance you are awake and are in full control of yourself.

I graduated from the Hypnotherapy Institute of Spokane in Spokane, WA. I also earned a Master's Degree in Education from Keene State College in New Hampshire, with a concentration in Emotional Disturbance, and have taken several counseling courses. I have taken public speaking courses in high school and college. In my younger years I had extreme stage fright and performance anxiety when giving presentations. Now I feel confident talking in front of groups of 5-200 people without any hesitation, and you can too!

Special Needs

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary and Special Education, and a Master's Degree in Special Education with a concentration in Emotional Disturbance. I have taken many college courses in the characteristics and education of people with developmental disabilities, learning disabilities, behavioral disorders, psychosocial dysfunction, sensory, physical, neurological, and other disabilities. I have also taken courses in educational administration, psychology, counseling, and chemical dependency counseling.
Over the past 40 years I have worked as a teacher, education director, activity therapist, counselor, social worker, and clinical hypnotherapist with a variety of children and adults with learning and psychological issues, as well as physical challenges. I performed assessments, developed educational and treatment plans, and lead interesting and effective activities, lessons, and sessions geared toward the goals of each individual, with consideration of abilities and current limitations. I also taught college for 4 years to students getting their degrees in human services and chemical dependency counseling.

Study Skills

While I have no formal training in study skills, I have always possessed strong study skills. With my former students, I helped them overcome whatever obstacles were in their way for achieving academic success. This included getting supplies, materials, notes, notebooks, binders, and study space organized, getting on a study schedule, overcoming anxieties about tests and performance, breaking skills and assignments down to small tasks, keeping focused on task and limiting distractions, and learning how to prepare and study for a test.Again, my B.S. and M.Ed. college degrees in Elementary and Special Education also prepared me to help students in this area.

Swimming

From 1969-1979 I lifeguarded and taught beginning and intermediate swimming and basic water safety at summer camps, ponds, lakes, and coastal beaches through the American Red Cross. I was certified through the Red Cross as an instructor in Swimming, Water Safety,CPR, Standard First Aid, Multimedia First Aid,and Advanced First Aid, as well as a basic lifeguarding course. I am 55 years old now and have been swimming in deep water since I was 5 years old, including body surfing in Rhode Island and New York. I was also a long distance swimmer as a teen and young adult. The longest I ever swam was 12 consecutive hours in the ocean! While I have let my swimming instructor certificates expire, I have maintained my swimming skills and love for the water.
