I am new to the tutoring business, but have over six years experience learning Mandarin Chinese, including three years working extensively with Chinese people and speaking/reading Chinese on a daily basis. I have a minor in Chinese from Brigham Young University, amounting to over 50 credit hours of study. I scored in the Advanced Mid range on the ACTFL Chinese Oral Proficiency Interview and in the Intermediate High range on the ACTFL Chinese Writing Proficiency Test. I have learned Chinese almost entirely on my own and am excited to impart the tricks of the language that I have discovered to you.

I have also studied Thai, Khmer, Afrikaans, and Marathi and am in tune with the different skills needed and useful techniques required for learning a language.

Flexibility and teaching to your needs is my primary approach and priority. What you want to study is what I want to teach and I will adapt my teaching to meet your needs. Spoken Chinese is my specialty in which I will focus. If you have no idea where to begin I can help there as well, by providing a structure to follow. In learning Mandarin Chinese, the first important step is to learn how to read the romanized writing (pinyin), and master pronunciation and tones. The first lessons that I have with you will build off of these concepts. Basic communicative phrases will be learned alongside these more grueling aspects (and according to your interest and requirements).

I like to encourage, motivate, and challenge students and I love to watch them progress. I am patient and sensitive to my students' needs when I teach and am happy to answer any questions they have. I don't mind going over concepts, but I do want to see progress being made. If you are motivated to learn Mandarin Chinese, I could be a great Chinese tutor for you!
