As a former college math professor, you might expect that I always liked math. However, my passion for mathematics actually began when I was in 11th grade. As a homeschooled student, I had a flexible schedule which allowed me to take Algebra II at my local community college. I had an amazing professor who made me realize how fun math is. As a former college math professor, you might expect that I always liked math. However, my passion for mathematics actually began when I was in 11th grade. As a homeschooled student, I had a flexible schedule which allowed me to take Algebra II at my local community college. I had an amazing professor who made me realize how fun math is. After that, I decided to major in math. In May 2012, I graduated Summa Cum Laude with my Bachelor's in Mathematics. For the next two years, I tutored math at the community college. I realized that I enjoyed sharing my passion for math with others and decided to get my Master's in Mathematics at California State University Fullerton so I could teach at community colleges. While working on my Master's I taught Intermediate Algebra and College Algebra at CSUF. I completed my Master's in the Summer of 2016 and taught at community colleges through 2020. I have taught Algebra 2, Trigonometry, Geometry, Precalculus, College Algebra, and Statistics. I love coming up with new ways of explaining things and watching my students have "lightbulb moments" when they suddenly understand a concept that confused them. I am very patient with my students and love it when they ask lots of questions!

Now that I have decided to focus on tutoring full time, I would love to work with you to show you how fun and easy math can be! Send me a message if you have any questions or would like to schedule a lesson.

Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I learned elementary math using a concept-based approach which helped me to understand math instead of just memorizing what to do. I can help your student understand the basics as well which will help prepare them for high school math and for life.

Homeschool

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

I've taught math at the college level so I know how to give students a solid foundation in Algebra I to prepare them for more advanced math classes. As a tutor, my students liked that I was patient and that I had multiple ways of explaining the same concept. I have also edited an Algebra I textbook, which has made me even more familiar with different algebraic concepts and methods of explaining them.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

I have taught and tutored Algebra II multiple times at the college level. Let me show you how easy factoring can be and how to set up word problems so they are easy to solve!
Calculus,

Calculus

I took Calculus I, II, and III at Norco College. Also, I occasionally tutored people in Calculus at Norco College. More recently, I taught a student the first few chapters of her calculus book to prepare her for taking Calculus BC at her high school.
Geometry,

Geometry

I have taught Geometry multiple times at college. I know proofs can be challenging at first but I can help you understand how to use theorems correctly and how to approach proofs to make them easier.
Prealgebra,

Prealgebra

I have tutored Prealgebra at college. I enjoy helping to prepare my students for Algebra I by giving them a solid foundation in Pre-algebra.
Precalculus,

Precalculus

I have experience teaching Precalculus at the college level and I have also tutored many students in Precalculus.
SAT Math

SAT Math

I learned the strategies of taking the SAT in High School, scoring in the 96th percentile. I will help your student learn how to eliminate wrong answers quickly, how to solve problems efficiently, and how to recognize the types of problems that are consistently on the tests.

ACT Math

In high school, I scored in the 92nd percentile on the ACT Math section. I can teach your student how to manage their time, solve problems quickly, and be successful on the ACT Math section.

Patient, knowledgeable & efficient

Joy was a great find for my daughter. She quickly discovered the areas she needed help and provided that help. We are very pleased and thankful to be able to reach out to her when my daughter needs extra help with homework.

Algebra 1

Joy was great! My son told me that she helped him understand the material better than his teacher. Im so glad she was able to help him. What I liked also was she gave him a worksheet to practice the material they went over.

Knowledgeable and helpful tutor

Taught trigonometry for my daughter in tenth grade. She was able to deliver the concepts very quickly and efficiently. My daughter felt very comfortable and confident on the topic after the class. Will definitely do more sessions. Thanks

Great Tutor

Ms. Joy has been a true Blessing to my daughter who is in the Autism Spectrum. The first lesson I could tell she was a grea fit because of the smile I saw on my little one. Cannot thank her enough for accomodating her teaching through the challenges. We started with only two lessons and now we are up to the 4th one. Blessings

Great first lesson!

My son was apprehensive about getting a tutor but after his first session with Joy he’s very relieved to have a better understanding of his algebra. He said she made things easy to understand and he feels so much better! We will most likely be booking more sessions!

Knowledgeable and patient

She taught some different ways to solve the problem and if i didn’t understand she would help me understand it using different things to try. She was also patient and kind when i didn’t understand the problem. I found her to be very helpful.

Responsive and Organized

Joy was quick at responding and accommodating in setting up a recurring day and time for Geometry lessons for my 10th grader son. We communicated a few times and aligned on particular areas where he needed help. She was prepared going into the first lesson and effective in her support. We will try 4 recurring lessons and hope my son clicks with her style and keeos up with her pace. Joy is responsive, organized and professional. I am looking for a long term go-to teacher and she seems to be a great candidate. Thank you for your dedication.

Extremely helpful

My 13 year old son says: Joy explained things well and cleared up a lot of questions I had. I’m looking forward to my next tutoring session.
