About Dan

I have over 30 years experience teaching High School Math. There are many different ways to teach a subject. Not all of them work with all students. If you teach a student how to learn and help them develop confidence in their ability to learn, then that student will grow academically. I have mostly taught at private schools, and do not have a Idaho teaching certificate but have passed the Praxis One and Praxis Two math test to show that I am highly qualified to teach Junior High and High School math. Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

30 years as a school teacher. I have taught Algebra most of those years.

Algebra 2

I have six years experience teaching Algebra 2. Algebra 2 is a mixture of Algebra 1 and Geometry with an introduction to Trigonometry mixed in. It is a foundation course for most college math courses. Because I work with a number of different students with different learning patterns, I am constantly looking for different ways to approach each lesson.

Elementary Math

Having taught math for over 20 years I have found ways to make learning basic math facts both fun and enjoyable. Once a student has these facts mastered they have the confidence to move forward in Math.

Geometry

Geometry is one of my favorite subjects. The relationship of lines to circles and other shapes has always fascinated me. I have six years experience teaching Geometry at all levels.

Prealgebra

Prealgebra is the foundation for all advance math. A student who has a good foundation in Prealgebra has a much better chance of being successful in all higher forms of math. I have taught Prealgebra for over 15 years and understand the subject matter well.

Easy to communicate

Unlike my own Algebra 2 teacher, he explained clearly the error in my ways without wasting my time. I am truly grateful to have someone like him tutor me. I have no doubt that his students enjoy his class.
