About Cynthia

Bio

For the past 22 years it has been my joy and privilege to be a classroom teacher to students from kindergarten through high school. I have specialized in teaching writing, grammar, and literature to grades 6th through 12th. I love opening up the world of literature to my students and assisting them to excel at producing exceptional writing.

For the past 22 years it has been my joy and privilege to be a classroom teacher to students from kindergarten through high school. I have specialized in teaching writing, grammar, and literature to grades 6th through 12th. I love opening up the world of literature to my students and assisting them to excel at producing exceptional writing.

I enjoy helping adult ESL students navigate the intricacies of the English language. I'm experienced with starting with students who know no English at all and those that would just like some fine tuning on their writing and grammar skills.

During the summers I have enjoyed the opportunity to teach high school literature and grammar on a one-on-one basis with students that wanted to get ahead or just needed a little extra encouragement. As our high school students prepare to take that next important step into college, having a working knowledge of English grammar and literature will help prepare them to be successful on the university level.

I have also spent countless enjoyable hours helping elementary students to learn to love reading and generally making sure students will be well prepared for the next grade level in the fall. Learning should be fun for our lower elementary students. Sometimes putting the multiplication facts on the concrete in chalk keeps the student going when the repetition of flashcards has made him lose his concentration. As the school librarian, I also have a passion for reading and believe the student must be an excellent reader to succeed in college and his chosen profession. I work on finding creative ways of enhancing reading comprehension and retention.
