About Riley

Learning has always been a favorite thing of mine! As far as my education background - it goes a little something like this: I was pulled out of school in 2nd grade because I was exceeding my classmates and my teacher was upset about me "not staying with the class". From 2nd - 8th grade I was homeschooled through "K12" which is a credited online public school. I was finished with my studies earlier in the day than any of my friends who attended a brick and mortar school. I was also able to start my summer break months before they were released from school in June. After 8th grade I attended "Renaissance High School" which allowed me to take concurrent credit classes. I graduated high school 8 credits shy of my associates degree in 2013. Since then I have continued studying independently but have had no further formal education.

As far as tutoring experience goes - I have a few years under my belt. My senior year of high school I tutored my cousin (also a senior) through her algebra 2 course as she was not able to attend classes due to medical issues. She graduated in 2013 with her math scores exceeding years of the past. The following year my aunt decided to pursue her teaching degree but needed help with the mathematics classes that were required. I tutored her for about a year and she passed her math class with an overall grade of 87%. This year, another one of my cousins (a sophomore in high school) started to struggle in his common core math class. When he approached me he had an overall grade of 42%. Over the course of 3 months we brought his grade up to a 73%. He now has the initiative to keep up his grades on his own and he has become a much more attentive and involved student.

I pride myself in my ability to not only improve grades but to instill a sense of responsibility and passion for learning. In addition to my math tutoring experience, I have played the piano for about 15 years and have a deep love for music. I enjoy helping others experience music the way I do through piano lessons. I love to teach beginners how to play the piano in a fun exciting way that no other teacher can compare to!

If there are any questions about any of my qualifications or experience just ask! I am an open book and would love to chat with you!

At Renaissance High School we were required to take a course called "Theory of Knowledge" or "TOK" for short. This class was nothing but philosophical discussions and assignments devoted to figuring out what types of knowledge there are and how we receive that knowledge.

I love working with children and instilling a passion for learning at a young age excites me!

I love to teach beginners how to play the piano in a fun exciting way that no other teacher can compare to! Due to this love of music I have personally researched music history and I am very fluent in music theory.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Music History

I have taken a university level music history class and passed with 100%. I personally research different parts of music history and often wrote research papers about different composers throughout my schooling. I have in addition played piano for 15 years and was often required to know a little background on the composers of the pieces I was playing.

Piano

I have played piano for 15 years from the ages 5-20. I have participated in music classes at school in addition to private lessons. I have taught multiple people how to play piano in addition to reading music.
