I have always loved to learn and I think that the opportunity to help others learn is a great privilege. I have a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, but my interests extend beyond this. As an undergraduate student, I took as many English classes, including English literature, as I could fit into my schedule. I have a minor in French and I am currently teaching French privately. I grew up in an English/French bilingual home and have lived in France. I return for visits on occasion. I have also translated many scientific papers written in French for both my colleagues and myself.

During my undergraduate years, I enrolled in several geology courses and biology courses including mineralogy, crystallography, cell biology, zoology, microbiology and mammalian physiology. Because math is fundamental to most of the physical sciences, I have taken algebra, linear algebra, trigonometry, and calculus. Fortunately, I enjoy math.

My interest in teaching was awakened during graduate school when I taught laboratory classes as well as tutored other students in various chemistry courses, i.e. analytical, physical, organic, inorganic and electro- chemistry. Since then, I have tutored both high school and undergraduate college students in chemistry and other science classes. I am currently a tutor in math, statistics and physical science at the College of Eastern Idaho (CEI). Formerly I volunteered.as a tutor at the local Montessori school where tutoring younger students from kindergarten through sixth grade.

Aside from teaching, I spent 20 years as a research Chemist and specialized in radioanalytical chemistry developing separation methods for radioactive materials including spent nuclear fuels.

Painting

I grew up painting and drawing because my mother was a professional artist and she taught private lessons at our home. I had the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of drawing and watercolor painting at home. I also took art classes starting in grade school up through high school and have taken private art lessons from other artists in the area while growing up. I have entered art shows and I paint and draw as a hobby. I have also done some tutoring in drawing and watercolor.

Public Speaking

Public Speaking

I am qualified as a public speaker by virtue of "practice". I have given many oral presentations, mainly scientific, at meetings and conferences for many years. I have also taught classes which require lecturing to students. I have not taught public speaking per se, however, I have spent considerable time developing my oral skills for my profession.

Corporate Training

French,

French

I grew up in a French/English bilingual home. By virtue of this, I took French in both high school and college. It has served me well, not only because I grew up speaking French, but I lived in France for a year. Also, professionally, I have translated many technical papers written in French, for both myself and my colleagues.

Handwriting,

Handwriting

I am currently teaching pre-school and kindergarten children handwriting at a Montessori school. I attended a parochial school growing up and printing and cursive were both considered essential components to our education. Legible handwriting is crucial to good written communication.
Phonics,

Phonics

Phonics is how I learned how to pronounce words and I consider phonics a superior tool for teaching enunciation. I am currently teaching phonics to pre-school children and kindergarten children at a Montessori school. It is an invaluable tool for teaching young students how words sound and how they are verbally formed.
