About Rana

I am a certified K-8 teacher, with an endorsement as a Reading Specialist. Currently I am over halfway through my Special Education Master's degree program. My approach to teaching includes using multiple methods to present information, engage students, and encourage success in all subjects.

My certification to teach Elementary math required a rigorous study of research based methods to promote understanding and success.

As a Reading/Literacy specialist I have a number of tools to guide students to an enjoyment of learning.

The Common Core expects that subjects will be taught so that students understand the content. This is how all teaching should be, whether we have the Common Core or not. Memorization, although valuable, will only serve students to a certain point unless they also have an understanding of the process or subject.

I am flexible and willing to work with students over the summer to promote school-year success!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Common Core

All of my study to become a certified teacher has been done under the Common Core. All lessons I wrote and taught while in college were aligned with the Common Core. The Common Core is the required standard for all U.S. teachers who are certified to teach in public schools.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am certified as a K-8 teacher by the State of Idaho. My studies have also included Montessori methods, and multi-sensory methods.

Hard Of Hearing

I have been an interpreter since 1994, and have worked with students who are deaf, hard of hearing, and deaf-and-blind. I am one semester away from being certified as a special educator in the State of Idaho.

Homeschool

I homeschooled my children in K-6 grades. During that time I researched curriculums, methods of delivery, and legal issues. I am comfortable with a variety of approaches to education and understand that as unique human beings there can never be a one-size-fits-all approach.
