I have been teaching for 14 years. I have taught second through eighth grade in several different environments. I have taught in elementary schools, middle school, alternative schools, and in a lockdown facility for boys. I have learned many things about kids and how they learn. The most important I have found is to understand that students have many variations when it comes to learning and retaining information. They also need to feel genuinely cared about and accepted for who they are. This is the best way to build a relationship with students and enable them to learn.
I am very comfortable teaching English and grammar. I have a great knowledge of it and how to convey meaning to students. I am also good at helping students with comprehension skills. I am interested in pursuing tutoring as another means to meet students, build their skills and confidence, and help them to become successful. This would be a great opportunity for myself and the students I have the privilege of working with.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
