I love to help people improve their skills and knowledge. I've helped international students with their spoken and written English during the last 5 years. I've helped co-workers write emails and documents as well as taught them many of the functions within various computer programs (such as MS Office products and work programs) over the last 20 years. I've also helped co-workers complete the statistics portion of Lean Six Sigma certification by explaining concepts to them in a way they can easily understand and move forward with.
Tutoring is rewarding for me because its fun to share what I know with others when it helps them to be more independent. And then they in turn help others by sharing their new knowledge with others. And it's cool to see the learning process steps with each person. The steps are not always the same from person to person; so it's a fun challenge for me to find the appropriate teaching method / examples that will work for each person.
Elementary math, prealgebra, and algebra 1 are very logical topics for me. In school I did very well in these classes; I received A's in all these classes. And I still use algebraic methods to explain and solve problems.
Statistics is also a logical process for me and it's very interesting to me. Statistics can be used for so many things and is used every day in business. When writing a proposal at work it has a greater chance for success when there are statistics included in the information. Statistics make the request stronger by showing frequency as well as impact.
I have a high attention to detail. I love reading and writing so I keep up on the current grammar rules. At work I was often asked to proofread documents before they were sent out for review with the team members involved. I was also often asked to proofread and edit emails before they were delivered to the recipients.
Knitting and cross stitch are hobbies that I've had since I was a teenager. I've completed many cross stitch projects. In knitting I've created many items such as blankets, potholders, scarves, and coasters. I've helped other adults with their knitting projects. And recently I taught 2 of my nephews, who are 8 and 10, how to knit. It was great to see the excitement on their faces as they got the hang of knitting and they saw their projects grow.
I'd love to have the opportunity to help you with any of a variety of topics you may need assistance with. Whether it's practicing speaking English, math, MS Office tips / tricks, statistics, and/or proofreading your writing - please contact me and we can work together to increase your knowledge of and proficiency in the needed topic. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been knitting for at least 8 years. I've created a variety of items including scarves, blankets of varying sizes, pot holders, wash cloths, and coasters. I've also helped less experienced knitters with their works and continue to learn more knitting patterns. I taught two of my nephews (8 and 10 years old) how to knit. It was so much fun to see the excitement on their faces as they got the hang of knitting and they started to see their project grow!
