About William

I'm excited to share my knowledge with you! I have a Masters degree in Speech and Language Pathology, a basis in psychology and linguistics, and have been trained in all aspects of the English language. I have regularly worked with students, ages 3-20, with a variety of speech, language, or cognitive deficits for the past 3 years. I have worked with students with dyslexia, autism, down syndrome, language delays, as well as students just eager to improve their academic success.

In tutoring, I take a systematic approach that utilizes students strengths to build on their weaknesses. It takes a delicate balance of challenging the student right on the boundary of what they are capable of doing and what they are learning to do. In language, I often incorporate metacognitive strategies to increase the students ability to self-monitor and become successfully independent. Lessons often include practice in all modalities: speaking, listening, reading, & writing.

I am happy to work with any student struggling with grammar, vocabulary, reading fluency, writing composition (narratives, informational, expository, etc.), or anything literacy-related. I'd also be more than happy to assist in tutoring for SAT, GRE, or related professional advancement testing.

As mentioned before, I have obtained explicit training in all aspects of the English language from the individual sounds that make up words, to how those sounds interact to make up the individual units of words that can change meaning, to how those units create words used in a rule-based system to express our thoughts! The English language is a very complicated beast, indeed, and I am here to help you break it down!

I am available to tutor in the Spokane and Coeur d'Alene areas. I have a flexible schedule and will work with you to find a time that works. Please contact me for further details.

Look forward to hearing from you!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
