My name is Sydney and I am an English/Writing tutor. I graduated from Portland State University in 2013 with a B.A. in English. During my enrollment I worked as an English and Writing tutor at the Writing Center on campus where I helped students write, revise and edit their papers and writing assignments. I also worked alongside professors in implementing lesson plans and sat in on lectures offering editing assistance to students. In addition to these duties I also hosted study groups. Along with working at the Writing Center I volunteered at Trillium Charter School. At Trillium I worked with a group of my peers hosting student fundraisers and organizing activities for the students.
Upon graduating, I received my TESOL Certification qualifying me to teach English as a second language. I’ve always had an interest in education and I feel these experiences have led me to this position.
I'm able to proofread others writing, helping them improve upon their skills as well as brainstorming ideas to get them started with their own writing.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
