About Christian

I am a Philosophy/Physics double major at BSU, I graduate with my philosophy BA this summer and in Fall 2018 with my Physics BS. I have spent my entire college career tutoring math, English and logic as a volunteer and recently was hired by BSU to tutor statistics and calculus. I love to teach and help people grow. Even though I love to learn I understand the struggles that come with the process, having surmounted difficulties in academics that I never thought I would, I pride myself in sharing the knowledge of how to understand difficult material with others.

I am qualified to tutor:
math up to Calculus I (pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, calculus)
statistics (quantitative reasoning and introductory statistics)
Writing and reading comprehension
Logic and philosophy

I have 3 years of experience tutoring math ranging from elementary school students to college students. I am currently employed through BSU as a statistics and calculus tutor. I enjoy math and pride myself on having taught myself much of what I know. I understand that math is a difficult subject and I love explaining the wonder that lies beneath it to help students reach their academic goals.

My first college degree is a BA in Philosophy, which requires immense amounts of reading and writing. I am a voracious reader with strong communication skills. I understand the English language thoroughly and am capable of helping students progress in ACT prep.

I have been playing music my entire life. I can coach students through jazz and classical theory. Ear training, sight singing, rhythm, chord structures etc...

I understand that studying for academics can be difficult and even frustrating. As a Philosophy graduate and Physics student I have overcome many academic challenges and I am eager to pass on some helpful tips to other students and help them pursue their futures!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have over three years of experience tutoring math, including Algebra 1.

Algebra 2

As the backbone of higher math, algebra is a subject with which I am very comfortable. I have tutored many students to get A's in classes and gain confidence in mathematical concepts at large. Math didn't come naturally to me, so I understand what a student is going through when they struggle with the material.

I spent three years tutoring elementary through high school mathematics at the Central Area Youth Association and Adams Elementary School in Seattle, WA, and I am currently a statistics and calculus tutor at Boise State University.

I am currently undertaking an independent study proving the completeness and consistency of first order logic and I host a weekly logic tutorial which covers semantics, formal/informal fallacies, aristotelian logic through first order predicate logic, truth tables, formal proofs and more. I also understand modal logic and some non-classical systems such as tense logic and fuzzy logic.
