C. Brett K.
I have 8 years' business experience using Spanish as my primary language of communication. I also speak Portuguese fluently having done business development in Brazil on various trips to different parts of the country.
I lived in Mexico for four years where I studied my junior year abroad and worked for PepsiCo Foods International / Frito Lay for three years as a marketing / brand manager. Since then I have worked in Mexico managing Mexican employees, and in the U.S. managing Mexican and Guatemalan employees, almost none of whom spoke English.
I have tutored many Brazilian and Mexican friends in English, usually on how to successfully pass the TOEFL and how to write in English on a professional business level. I have also tutored some American friends on how to speak Spanish proficiently before they started traveling to Mexico and South America.
My method of teaching varies from student to student. Some are primarily oratory learners (learn from listening and speaking first), others learn best by reading and writing first. It's a question of finding the most comfortable format for each student so the learning process is fun and doesn't feel like work. C. Brett K.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
