She is very positive and very patient. She is wonderful with my daughter and has helped her a lot in just a short time.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a certified teacher with a Master's degree in education. Before earning my teaching certificate, I worked for two years with special needs students at a local elementary school. Currently, I substitute teach and tutor multiple students in math and reading. I am familiar with the new common core standards and have been able to help multiple students adapt and adjust to learning with them. I am passionate about elementary school learning and love what I do!
My approach to reading tutoring is to determine the source of the reading difficulty, and tailor interventions to that difficulty. I have experience helping students overcome issues with fluency, comprehension, and word decoding, all of which have required different materials and methods. My mission is to help students overcome whatever is preventing them from enjoying reading because I know that reading can be a joy for everyone.
I have played classical violin for 13 years. Ten of those years were spent receiving private lessons as well as playing in youth symphonies and in two college symphonies (University of Idaho and Oregon State University). I attended the Britt Music Festival's Chamber Music Camp in 2005, which was hosted by the acclaimed Arianna String Quartet. My repertoire from private performance includes pieces such as Bach unaccompanied sonatas and partitas, Mozart concertos, Dvorak Violin Concerto, Mendelssohn Violin Concerto, and Franz, Brahms, and Beethoven Violin Sonatas. I received one year of collegiate level instruction when I began a music performance degree at University of Idaho in Moscow, ID. I did not continue with that major because of different career plans, but I have continued to play violin for pay and for pleasure. Typical venues include weddings and church- related performances. I have a very solid skill base built from completing the Suzuki program and would use that as a primary approach in instructing young students.
