Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a Bachelors Degree with a major in elementary education and an endorsement in special education. I also have earned a master's degree as a reading teacher. In addition to about 12 years as a classroom teacher, I have been subbing and tutoring in the Boise, Idaho area for 5 years. I try to attend a reading conference every year to keep current.

Phonics

I have a master's degree as a reading teacher. I have been tutoring phonics and other reading skills for almost 40 years including students who have been diagnosed as dyslexic. I use a variety of approaches with students depending on their specific needs.

Reading

My qualifications include certifications in elementary education, special education, and reading. I have many experiences tutoring reading with my own materials. I am also a substitute teacher in both Boise and West Ada School Districts.

Special Needs

I am certified in special education and have been since 1972. I am also certified in reading specialized in remedial reading skills. I have had 10 years of teaching special needs students in my own classroom as well as a year as a long term substitute. I have also spent the last 7 or so years as a sub and tutor of many different kinds of students, many with special needs. I have attended a variety of conferences about special education, reading, and dyslexia to stay current.
