Bio

I went to MIT for my undergrad, and Valley and Central Academy for high school. After graduating, I moved to SF to work as a software engineer at a startup for a few years. Now, I'm back home in Iowa to take a break. I'm a big tennis and Smash Ultimate fan, and I also dabble in piano and guitar to relax during my free time.

Now, I'm back home in Iowa to take a break. I'm a big tennis and Smash Ultimate fan, and I also dabble in piano and guitar to relax during my free time.

Why do I like tutoring? Three main reasons. First, from a philosophical standpoint, learning and understanding why things are the way they are, are the keys to building a better future, and so teaching will make the world a better place. Second, for many people (including myself), a confusing concept can be really frustrating when it just doesn't click. Sometimes, I'm so confused I don't even know what the right questions to ask are! It gets even worse when concepts build on each other, and having a rough but incomplete understanding could lead to a disastrous domino effect later down the line. I know what that's like, so helping people get back on their feet is a passion of mine. Third reason: seeing someone grasp a concept or solve a problem for the first time is really rewarding! I enjoy witnessing that "aha" moment.

I was a tutor in high school for a few students, in Precalculus and other subjects. I also assisted Mathcounts practice for middle school students after school. In college, I was a tutor for the Intro to Algorithms class, and an instructor for a web development class.

My math achievements, 36 on the ACT, 800 on the SAT (I and II), USAMO (4-time qualifier), and MOSP (2-time participant). I spent a lot of time on math because the competitions require deep understanding of concepts to be able to apply them in all sorts of different scenarios.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Great Tutor

Eric did a great job of helping me articulate what I was trying to put into code and then helping me to see how to put it into code. Does a great job of breaking down the problem and getting the student to solve for themself. I would definitely use him again and recommend him to others.

Extremely knowledgeable, and patient.

Basic function, basic function logic, math operators, if if else else statements. Extremely knowledgeable on the above topics, helped me understand a lot of fundamentals when I was unable to grasp them on my own. I highly suggest requesting Eric as your tutor, especially for JavaScript.
