I will be starting my senior year at Simpson College this fall as a history major and secondary education minor. I plan to be a middle school or high school social studies teacher and coach basketball. I have very little "official" tutoring experience, but I have worked with kids and students of varying ages in a variety of capacities. I have been coaching basketball since I graduated from high school in the spring of 2013; I have volunteered as a Vacation Bible School counselor each of the last four summers; I have volunteered at the middle school in my hometown as a classroom assistant; and I have been studying education for the last two years at Simpson. Although I am a history major and focusing on social studies in general, I am becoming a teacher because I love working with kids and want to help them succeed. I do not believe there is any one way to teach a student; teaching styles must be personalized to fit each student, which I feel is a huge benefit of personal tutoring.

My ACT English score about four years ago was a 27, which is not amazing, but I was only able to take the test once. Since that time, I have written many, many college papers, improved my own writing, and learned much more about how to write well. Having taken the ACT and added to my English knowledge, I feel that I am qualified to help students with the types of questions that they will need to answer on the ACT.

I am about to start my senior year as a history major at Simpson, which has allowed me to take several classes about American history, and a few world history courses. I have taken political science, government, and economics courses as well in my attempt to earn more endorsements so that I can teach more than just history in the future. Above all else, I am willing to learn with my students and do research to prepare to teach my students.

I am attempting to be a tutor this summer (2016) for several reasons. One very simple reason is that I need to make some money. The larger reasons are that I love working with students, I want to work on my craft as an educator, and I want to help students who need a little extra help by personalizing my way of teaching to each of them. I am very excited for an opportunity to begin my teaching career before I have even graduated from college.
