I truly enjoyed the one-on-one experience I had as a tutor of specialized exams. I believe tutoring allows the teacher to tailor the lesson to the strengths, weaknesses and needs of the student. Tutoring is advantageous in that as the teacher, I can quickly grasp an understanding of how the student best learns and adapt my teaching method to maximize the student's learning.
My greatest strength as a private tutor lies in having a thorough knowledge of how a particular test is written and proceed from there in devising a methodology that allows students to succeed on the exam. For instance; In the IELTS and SAT exams, reading comprehension can be quite challenging to the student. My method exploits the intricacies of how a piece is written. I then teach students how to read to extract the information to answer the question at hand. The students circumvent parts of the text and focus on the seminal matter contained therein. Essentially, 80% of a piece used on a specialized exam does not factor into answering the question, my method teaches the student the strategies and techniques needed to glean an article for the content needed in answering the questions.
I had the students gain an appreciation for the use of short-term memory and apply its function to writing the exam. I always told students that after a specialized exam if I ask them what the reading and listening passages were about and they could not remember well, they likely did well on the exam. For example; A reading comprehension passage could be on a piece taken from a physics book, the student taking the exam wants to go to college to study business. The student need not know physics for the sake of the exam or entrance into the school, the student needs to know where to go in the article to answer the questions. Specialized tests are far different than tests given on specific classroom subjects in which a holistic comprehension is required.
While tutoring in Greece, I enjoyed great success in preparing students to go to universities in England and America. Countless students benefited from their lessons with me and went on to graduate from well renowned colleges and universities across England and the United States.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
