I love learning and I love travel. I have taught or studied on every continent except Antarctica! I grew up in Colombia in a multilingual setting. I earned my BA (Hons) in classics at Oxford University and my PhD at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. A highlight of my time in the Tar Heel state was receiving the Tanner Award for Teaching Excellence on court during half-time at the UNC-Duke basketball game.

Since then, I have taught a wide range of humanities courses at a liberal arts college in Minnesota. I also help students prepare for college standardized tests and improve their writing. I enjoy helping young readers develop confidence and fluency. I teach English language to recent immigrants, and also coach students for the ACT test (English, Reading, and Writing). I teach writing intensive courses, do editing and proofreading of essays and dissertations, and serve as a series editor of a textbook series for Cambridge University Press.

I have taught Latin for more than two decades, mainly to undergraduates, but also to elementary through high school students, including AP Latin students. I have taught with a range of textbooks, and indeed contributed to the development of the Oxford Latin Course while teaching high school at Harrow School.

I enjoy teaching the gifted and talented (I have taught Latin and etymology summer courses at The Johns Hopkins' summer Center for Talented Youth). I also enjoy teac
