Hi there, I'm a biologist from Oklahoma who studies land snails. I'm looking to tutor others in biology so I can share my interest in the natural world with people who are eager to learn. I have a Master's degree in Biology from the University of Oklahoma and have taught numerous biology courses as a teaching assistant. I have experience teaching full classrooms of university students as well as a lot of 1 on 1 teaching experience.

My general approach to tutoring is to make sure that students focus on the larger biological context of what they're learning to help them form a narrative framework that connects new and old topics they learn over the course of their biological education. All components of biology are connected, from molecules to ecosystems, but students often get so focused on memorizing specific details that they don't see the larger picture. This often results in students struggling when asked to problem solve using information from different topics.
My secondary focus is to ensure that students develop strong study skills that assist with memorizing large amount of information. I recognize that many courses (unfortunately) simply ask students to memorize and regurgitate large amounts of information to get a good grade. I think memorization is a skill that requires practice and proper tools and is useful for many courses beyond biology.
