Augustana College (English, Philosophy)
University of Iowa (Master's)
I'm Nick, a teacher and a graduate student living in Iowa City. I specialize in English, writing, reading, literature, test preparation, and French. I have a Master's degree in English, and I'm working toward a Master's in Teaching English. My Bachelor's from Augustana College was in English and Philosophy with a minor in French. The greatest thing about my profession is that it gives me the opportunity to meet and work with so many different intelligent young people.
My students appreciate that I've taught and worked in so many different environments. Besides three years of teaching at the university level, I have worked in high schools and junior highs, as a professional scorer of standardized tests, as an editor, and as a tutor in multiple subjects.
I have worked for three years in the English Department at the University of Iowa, teaching three sections annually of a course called The Interpretation of Literature. I have been a Professional Scorer for Pearson Education, grading essays for the SAT and other norm-referenced tests. I work in high school and junior high English/Language Arts classrooms each semester as part of my teacher certification preparation. I taught English for a year at a high school in France. And as an undergraduate, I tutored for four years in both the Reading/Writing Center and the French Department.
Please contact me for more information or to schedule a lesson. I look forward to it! I'm Nick, a teacher and a graduate student living in Iowa City. I specialize in English, writing, reading, … Read more
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
