Elinor has been teaching English writing for my 5th child for 5 months. She was able to get the attention, eliminate the reluctance of writing and kept the lessons very pleasant and effective. She is flexible and willing to accommodate my feedback to make the learning experience a great one. Highly recommend her.
I really like the approach Elinor takes to help my daughter's writing skills. She is teaching her how to organize her writing and support her thesis with thoughtful examples. Two tutoring sessions under our belt and so far I'm very happy!

My daughter enjoyed her first lesson with Elinor, who came highly recommended by a friend. Elinor made my daughter feel comfortable right away, and my daughter completed the lesson feeling great. I would definitely recommend Elinor for your child.
Elinor was very insightful, helpful and patient! I hope to continue using her as I begin college in the Fall as well. She seemed to grasp the assignment and was very knowledgeable of the book.
Elinor was fantastic with directing and giving feedback along with my paper!! I really like the way she handle my paper. She was helpful with giving a great and helpful questions which leaded me to make my paper better.
As to be a international student she helped me a lot on my English, such as how to use the correct grammar, how to write a good article. Every times when I finished the assignment, she will teach me how to do it better. She is a good teacher.
My daughter enjoyed the lesson and I'm happy that we will be meeting on a regular basis. We look forward to seeing her grow in her writing. Elinor got my daughter to think about how she approaches her writing audience and introduced interesting online tools.
Elinor was terrific at not only guiding my daughter with an application essay, but she also has a great ability to give constructive criticism and encouraging compliments at the same time.
She taught my daughter and nephew on different subjects (reading, writing) and at different levels (middle school, high school), with plans tailored to their individual needs, and improved their performances significantly.
Ms. Elinor has been a great tutor for our family. She's consistent, patient and she continues to bring new strategies and ideas to keep the lessons fresh. We recommend her!
Elinor has been great at working with my child in reading and grammar. We have seen such an improvement since she began the tutoring sessions that it has been well worth the investment. Elinor is very flexible when it comes to scheduling and if we need to make an adjustment along the way, she is quick to respond and work with us to ensure we don't miss a session.
Elinor is a wonderful tutor. My sons grade was dropping in 8th grade English due to his writing. Elinor jumped in and saved the day! Elinor helped my son raise his grade from a a B- to a B+ in just one trimester! We hope to continue to use Elinor through High School. Elinor is also very easy to reach by email and was always on time for the tutoring sessions. Thank you Elinor!
Elinor has been integral in our son's mastery of math. Her patience, kindness, and knowledge encouraged such a depth of learning for him that he went from anxious and discouraged due to falling behind to encouraged and confident upon forging ahead. We highly recommend Elinor for any struggling math student, especially those who may need a little positive push in the right direction.

Elinor is brilliant, thoughtful and encouraging, all the while allowing the student to develop his/her skills. She's masterful at imparting knowledge and my husband and I are excited about seeing the final product of this important assignment Elinor has been an integral part of.
The intangible value of working with Elinor is we have not seen our son this excited about writing ever in his life. I'm guessing there are only a handful of teachers on the planet who can engage a student as completely as Elinor.
Sweet, Elinor, we hope you know how truly gifted and amazing you are.
Elinor is a very patient, but stern tutor. She is the perfect tutor for my son. My son is ADHD and a bit difficult at times. She makes learning fun for him. I love to hear him laughing and having a good time as he is learning. I am very fortunate that we found Elinor. We have tried many others and she is awesome! Would highly recommend her!!
Elinor is always on time on the days she says she will be here, that is very much appreciated since we have had trouble with other tutors following through in the past.
She is also very patient, stays on task, and is extremely knowledgeable. She is always in a great mood which helped my son warm up to her. She helped to bring out my son's passion for writing and he is enthusiastic about her visits.
I would definitely recommend Elinor as a tutor.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I substitute taught Pre-K through 6 for three years in Iowa. Several schools, such as Twain Elementary in Iowa City, specifically requested that I return and added me to their preferred subs list. I get along incredibly well with young children, and find it very easy to help them tell me where they are getting stuck in their thinking.
