San Jose State University (Advertising)
I have been working as a tutor here in San Jose for over three years. I have worked mostly with college students, but as of last year, I began helping HS students as well.
I help guide the student towards the answer rather than solving the problem for them. This usually involves determining where in the thought process the student is stuck and nudging them in the right direction. I like to quiz the students I work with to make sure the material is understood before moving on.
I work with students with everything from following my own material and semester-long lesson plans, to completing a study guide or sample test. I can help you with study skills, time-management skills, and test-taking skills, or simply assist you in completing your homework or assignments - all depending on your needs and areas of opportunity for improvement.
I graduated from SJSU with a bachelor’s in Advertising. After working in the field, I decided on a career change. I first became an EMT then enrolled back in school as a full-time pre-med student. I started working as a lab tech for the chemistry department at SJCC, while completing the prerequisites. I took the MCAT and applied to schools last year. I proudly say that I will be starting med school this Fall.
My availability is in the evening during the week or weekend mornings. I would be happy to meet you at a library, coffee shop, or any other public place. I will do house calls on a case-by-case basis.

Armando helped my daughter understand her honors chemistry. He was very patient with her, and took the time to explain step by step areas she didn't 'get' before.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Biology is my favorite science subject! Cellular biology, microbiology, physiology, you name it. Through all the times I've helped students, I've created my own mini practice quizzes with answers and explanations that I use when tutoring.
Chemistry never came easy to me. Because of this, to learn it I had to break it down to it's most simplest form and build my way up. This has allowed me to help students of all levels, even those who are completely lost in the subject.
