Hello! I study communication at the University of Iowa as a Ph. D student. Previously I studied at New York University, where I earned an MA, at the University of Amsterdam. My undergraduate degree at Reed College was in philosophy. My strengths are in writing, language, literature, history, and social studies. But I have also studied math, and have scored well on the SAT and GRE. I can help students intimidated by standardized tests learn to approach them more methodically.
I would love the opportunity to work with young scholars who may want support in one or more courses of study. I have worked with students of all ages, and I tailor my tutoring style to each student. In New York, I taught a variety of subjects to elementary students through the federal America Reads / America Counts program. I have taught at the college undergraduate level now for four years. I am well-rounded, and have also worked in information technology roles for a number of years.
As a tutor, I am friendly and easy to get along with. I think it is important to set high standards for myself and my students. Learning takes dedication and effort, but this can also make it among the most rewarding pursuits for any student. I look forward to hearing from you! Hello! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
