Iowa State University (English Education)
My name is Stacy and I am currently an English Education student at Iowa State University. I will be student teaching this Fall and I am looking for teaching and learning experiences/opportunities to become the best teacher I can be! Being in the education program, I have learned several pedagogical strategies pertaining to teaching reading and writing. I have taken various writing and reading courses, as well as curriculum instruction courses that make me a valuable asset to students. I will receive my teaching license in December/January, so I'm not too far away from being a licensed teacher in the state of Iowa, further exemplifying my credentials. I also regularly work with young softball players, teaching them to pitch and hit, so I have experience working one on one with youth. I love working with students and watching them learn and grow as a learner and as a strong, independent person. I believe one on one tutoring is a very effective way to help students achieve their goals in English.
I strongly believe learning should be fun, so I try to incorporate engaging curriculum and activities that will help students connect and enjoy learning English. To assess where students are and their goals for a certain skill, I will ask them a series of questions to give me a better understanding of how to design curriculum for the student. From there, I will discover what interest the students, making the curriculum engaging and interesting to them. I will also design my instruction and curriculum around the Iowa Core. I like using a variety of strategies to accommodate different learning styles, such as using graphic organizers and watching short clips for visual learners. I love English and I want students to love English as well, so I work hard to make the content interesting and engaging. I look forward to meeting and getting to know you.
I am currently studying English Education at Iowa State University, so I have plenty of experience with teaching English. I am also a former Iowa State University Softball pitcher, so I know how to work hard to accomplish goals as an individual, and as a team. English is my passion and I strive to help students love English as well.
I encourage you to contact me to learn more about my credentials and teaching style.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
