I am currently a Criminal Justice Instructor at a local community college with 16 years of full time police officer experience. I have worked all shifts and all assignments, with the last assignment of 3 years as a School Resource Officer (SRO). I attended the University of Northern Iowa and obtained a bachelor's degree in Criminology and attended St. Ambrose University to obtain a Master's Degree in Criminal Justice.

I currently teach Intro to Corrections, Juvenile Delinquency, White Collar Crime, and Criminal Justice Ethics. I enjoy helping students see the "real-life" application of the materials that are covered in text books and allowing the student to see how that application can play a role in every day life or in their interactions with people. I love teaching when students see that I do not possess special powers, I merely help them see that they had the knowledge and I just helped them recognize it by putting it in different terms or in a different way of understanding.

Feel free to contact me. One of the things I enjoy doing most in teaching is providing other angles to view things, so as to be fair to people and the Criminal Justice system, that we allow the story to be told from different perspectives. I also enjoy helping students get over the hurdles or roadblocks when writing papers or thinking of major project topics. I attempt to provide things to think about when they share their topic and how to make the system better or to lower crime and recidivism rates.

Criminal Justice

I have an associate's degree in Police Science, Bachelor's Degree in Criminology, and a Master's Degree in Criminal Justice. I worked full time as a police officer for 16 years and worked all shifts and assignments. Currently I teach Criminal Justice and Police Science at the college level. I am teaching or have taught: Intro to Criminal Justice, Intro to Corrections, Criminology, Juvenile Delinquency, White Collar Crime, and Criminal Justice Ethics. The combination of education, teaching, and real work experience makes a good application of textbook or training material to real life. I find it helpful when working with students to compare things that happen on the job or in the "real-world" that they may encounter with topics of study from courses. Students seem to perform better when they can find the connection between study and real life.
