Wartburg College (Communications and Political Science)
I love tutoring. As a WyzAnt tutor for more than seven years, I thoroughly enjoy the process of encouraging students of all ages to reach beyond what they thought they knew. My desire is for all students to become "life-long learners", seeing their current school subjects as just the beginning in their journey of learning. My tutoring methods differ, depending on the felt needs of each student. Sometimes I tutor by asking questions, hopefully encouraging the student to realize the answer or concept through their own thought processes. Sometimes I create games to demonstrate that learning is fun. I am a hands-on teacher who likes to use real life to teach almost all subjects.
I graduated as valedictorian of my high school class and cum laude from Wartburg College in Waverly, IA with double major in Communications Arts (Broadcasting) and Political Science.
I home-schooled my two children through high school graduation. I have experience in teaching Elementary Math, Test Prep, Algebra, Geometry, Language Arts, U.S. and World History, Geography, Social Studies, and Writing. I love tutoring. Our 4th grader has had just 2 sessions with Kristine and we have already seen improvements with her math and even more importantly, her confidence! Kristine has incorporated games to make math fun....I know, right?! Math...fun! Our daughter looks forward to seeing Kristine for their session. We couldn't be more pleased.
Kris worked with my 17-year old son throughout his junior year on geometry. It's not his subject. She was always prepared and we often were able to arrange a meeting on short notice. Kris was always on time and was willing to meet us at a couple of different locations.
She was very patient and let my son work at his own pace, we never felt rushed and sometimes we took a long time going through the lessons. He was failing the class and ended the semester with a C, so definitely understood the material better after meeting with Kris.
Kris taught me mathematics and our tutoring sessions helped me immensely. She is more than fair with tutoring costs and is well worth the money. I would refer her to anybody who needs help with math or anything involving testing. She is a great teacher and if you're looking for someone who is patient and flexible then she is definitely for you.
My son said he felt good about the review. He thinks he will do well. I will keep you updated.
Kristine is tutoring me in Algebra. Scheduling our sessions is easy with Kristine. Paying on WyzAnt simplifies the process. She is always on time, keeps me focused and helps me stay positive. When I am over thinking or struggling to understand something Kristine pushes me and works to find other ways for me to understand areas I am struggling to understand. Kristine is easy going and fun to work with. I look forward to our
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taken college courses in Old and New Testament Survey as well as multiple classes through correspondence in various Bible books and topics, including Genesis, Acts, New Testament, Old Testament, Biblical geography, and theology. I currently hold credentials through the Assemblies of God denomination. I have taught Bible classes in large and small group settings.
Enjoy watching the "light bulb" go on for elementary students who struggle to grasp the early math concepts vital for later success. I use card games, dice and other activities to illustrate how fun math can be - and easy to learn!
I am an executive Administrative Assistant to a company CEO and HR manager. I've completed Excel training via online tutorials, including use of pivot tables. I use Excel spreadsheets for my job as well as my own household and volunteering needs.
I am proficient in Microsoft Outlook, the personal information manager used most often in businesses. Though most often used for email, Outlook also provides calendar, "to-do" lists, contact manager, note-taking and journaling capabilities. If you are needing to upgrade your computer proficiency before heading back out into the job market, Outlook training would be a great place to start.
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Communication Arts/Broadcasting which required me to give speeches/presentations both on air (radio and TV) and in front of live audiences. I worked in radio as a News/Sports Director for 3 years, and have additional experience in television in programming, traffic, news, sports, sales & promotions. Each of these positions required me to give presentations to employees, students, and sometimes the general public. Additionally I have served as director of a church ministry which required multiple instances of giving presentations at public gatherings, from a small group setting to large (over 200 people) conferences. I have also taken course work in preparing sermons and talks, specifically in church settings. This includes studying the process: selecting a topic, researching and outlining the presentation, selecting illustrations/stories to include in the presentation, and tips for overcoming the fear that many people have before a public speaking event.
