Central College (Spanish)
I have a major in Spanish and a minor in English and a teaching certificate for grades 7-12. I have many years of experience teaching and I love doing it. I have taught all ages from 4 year-olds to adults. Currently, I am teaching Spanish for Adult Education and ESL at DMACC. I am also tutoring ESL.

I love how she took notes during our session and so did I, then she sent me home with the notes she took for me to look over. She cared about what I wanted out of the tutoring sessions and definitely completely custom fit our discussion for me.
Thank you, Marcia. Our student feels the lessons are outstanding. The Spanish course grades coming way back up as a result of your tutoring help is just an extra benefit!
My son is a bit nervous when it comes to Spanish. He never wants to disappoint anyone, especially his teachers. Marcia has been patient, and he says he really feels like she is helping him. We have seen a difference in his grades over the past several weeks!
I was very reluctant about hiring a tutor for many reasons; however I am absolutely blown away by Marcia’s insight and expertise in the Spanish language. She is fully prepared with all her own resources that have captured my son’s imagination. Every time my son drifts off, she has the ability to draw him back or shift with him. My son has had only four sessions and shows many signs of identifying with the Spanish language. I am very excited for his future success.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been teaching ESL for Des Moines Area Community College off and on for 14 years. I have taught all levels of non-credit classes and used many different curriculums. In recent years I have been tutoring individuals using the Excellent English series. It has a nice mix of reading, writing, listening, speaking, grammar, and vocabulary. I have to figure out what level and pace the student needs. If they need more practice than what is in the book, I will make extra worksheets.
