Bio

I was homeschooled up until my fifth grade year. The transition from homeschooling to public school was difficult for me. Many days I would come home crying. After things settled down, and the years in public school went on, I realized that I wanted to be a teacher. I aspire to help students who struggle just as I did. I believe that we are all gifted in a unique way.

I am currently studying education at Kirkwood, and planning to transfer to UNI to complete my degree. I am not a certified teacher, but I truly want to make a difference in the lives of students. I have taken two different classes at Kirkwood that required me to work individually with students in various classrooms for semester lengths. I thoroughly enjoyed both experiences, and learned an immense amount about various learning styles and how to cope with behavioral issues. I learned, most of all, that each child is unique. As a future teacher/tutor, my goal will be to learn about the student in order to make the learning fun and enjoyable, rather than a have-to.

I have volunteered in both a 6th and 7th grade classroom for 115 hours in the past school year. I enjoyed getting to know each one of the students on a unique level as I aided each one at various times in their work. Throughout high school I had an after school childcare job watching 4 siblings (ranging in age from 5 months to 14 years old). I enjoyed occupy them with games and helping them with their homework.

I took Biology in high school, and took biology I in college, in which I received an A in both courses. I have taken two philosophy courses in college (receiving A’s) and thoroughly enjoy deep thinking and deciphering what the author is truly saying. I took physics in high school and also in college. I enjoy physics so much, that I have thought about teaching it as my major.

I strongly encourage you to contact me to learn more about my love for teaching as well as my availability to schedule lessons.
I look forward to meeting you!
