Iowa State University (Mathematics)
Students and Parents,
I am scheduled to graduate Iowa State University this May with a Bachelor's of Science in Mathematics. I have been tutoring high school and college-level math courses for the past 2 1/2 years. My students succeed in the courses they take because they work hard, ask good questions, and practice what I ask them to in our sessions. I have also been enrolled in the Iowa State Teacher Education program during my time here. I have completed the entire program with the exception of a semester of student teaching: once I student teach I will be certified to teach secondary level mathematics in the state of Iowa. I have extensive training and education not only in mathematics courses, but also in teaching mathematics. I have been blessed with wonderful instructors in the past who have given me and helped me develop tools for helping other students understand and appreciate mathematics like I do. I generally meet with students to simply discuss topics they are having trouble with at the time and work with them to explain those topics in more in-depth and understandable ways. I also work through example problems with students and help them see that what they're doing makes sense and that it's not simply a memorized list of procedures. Students and Parents,

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have quite a few years experience leading a Bible study in high school as well as in college. I have attended various camps during past summers ranging in topics from the heart of worship to apologetics and defense of the faith.
I have a Master's in Applied Mathematics and and undergrad in secondary education in mathematics. I understand Discrete Math and how to teach it.
I utilized MATLAB heavily in my graduate research in Numerical PDEs. I have experience with finite difference methods and other numerical tools that can be easily implemented in MATLAB. I recall what it was like to not understand MATLAB and so I know the types of questions that new students should ask.
