My experiences working with Deaf children, special needs, and regular education students has provided me a wide variety of learning styles and student's needs. By focusing on the student and adapting to their unique learning style, I have helped many become successful in their curriculum. Allow me to make your child's learning experience a treasured time. While working in Home Health Care, I enjoyed the opportunity to work with a 15 year old autistic boy. Unfortunately, I was injured and am limited in my ability to maneuver.
When tutoring students, finding the appropriate content standards for the grade and subject occur first. Next, an interview with the student and parent/care giver allow me to understand what is expected of me and I learn about the needs of the student. By incorporating the arts into the curriculum, students experience greater retention, abstract reasoning skills, and have an enjoyable learning experience. The application of real life scenarios to the learning process also helps cement the retention level of learners.
While on Maui, the Maui Arts and Cultural Center (MACC) had summer programs for teachers that provided myself and other teachers the skills necessary to integrate the arts into curriculum. Visual arts, music, dance and drama were used to enhance lessons for grades K to 12.
By working with the American Red Cross as a CPR, First Aid, AED, and Water Safety Instructor as well as being a United States Coast Guard Ocean Operator licensed to operate vessels up to 100 tons and a Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) Open Water Scuba Instructor, many experiences of life helped me to give my students greater depth to their learning.
I attended California State University at Long Beach and majored in Theater Arts with an emphasis in technical theater. Design in sets, costumes, lighting, audio, and make-up provided many experiences to look at life in many various ways. At the Hotel InterContinental Wailea, I was a guest relations host in charge of the children's program and guest activities. I worked with children from various parts of the world and adapted to their cultural styles by greeting them with opportunities to share in visual arts. While teaching snorkeling and scuba diving, I engaged students from 6 to 85 in stepping outside of their comfort zone and guided them to reach their fullest potential. My teaching with pre-school through young adults with the department of education in Hawaii, brought a vast cultural awareness to my teaching techniques. The one unified concept in working with all my students was to respect them.
With your blessings, I will endeavor myself to give your child the best possible learning experience. Thank you for taking your time to view my profile. I look forward to working with you and your child.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Scene, costume, lighting, make-up and graphic arts for the theater encompasses color theory, application, design and analysis for every project. My live theater experience with California State University at Long Beach, employed at the local community theater as set designer/builder, building and painting scenery for convention events, Maui Community College's "On Maui" (news magazine), and with the local cultural center's Teacher Workshops incorporating the arts into the curriculum provided professional applications for my skills. As I applied these skills while teaching on Maui, the experience I brought to my students educated, enlightened, and entertained my students as well as colleagues, parents and the community. Color mixing of primaries (red, yellow, and blue) allowed my students to make secondary colors of orange, green, and purple. The addition of white to tint a hue or black to shade a hue gave my students skills to enhance their paintings by showing angle of light source, clarification of color on space in composition.
