I'm a retired teacher, graphic artist and illustrator and have taught in public schools and at the University of Hawaii. I'm very committed to helping students understand what they are learning. With my experience as a student and a teacher I have a knowledge of what a student needs and how to prepare for testing and learning.
I'm very interested to have students be positive to learn and understand what they learn. Using reviewing and getting to know at what rate and pace the student can progress is important dsto me in their progressing. I'm very enthused when I see a student show understanding of what is covered in their lessons. My objective in my relationship with the student is to maintain interest and sense of accomplishing an understanding and remembering what's covered.
I believe I have a good understanding of the use of American English used correctly. I have a large vocabulary gained through a love of the language and of reading and writing.
I have had a long career in graphic design in a wide range of experiences that include packaging design, illustration, brochure design, and book textile design. I have had 6 children's books published in New York City where I lived and worked for 15 years autonomously. I produced 3 educational film strips based on children's stories creating figures I costumed and then photographed. I was employed by Channel 2 in Rio de Janeiro for 5 years and one year in Sao Paulo providing the background art for the titles of their popular nightly telenovelas. A highpoint of my professional career was designing floats for Portela, the largest samba school, in the Carnaval in 1974 ! I returned to Hawaii in 1980 since my mother required care. in Hawaii I was part of the graphic department of HMSA, producing information brochures and putting out the monthly illustrated house in-house magazine. Currently I spend my time painting with acrylics.
I welcome all contact with prospective students to get acquainted with each other and to working out scheduling mutually convenient. I look forward to doing this. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have had a fascination beginning in childhood with trying to understand how images are created. I spent much of my early years using pencil but gradually branched into using pen and ink and then into using paint. Living in NYC gave me the opportunity to visit the many museums to look at both drawings and paintings. I've had many of my drawings and painted images published in magazines, I illustrated books I've been on television. I now am producing images using acrylic paint. In Hawaii I taught in public schools and as a visiting professor in Graphic Design.
My professional life has been entirely related to art in one way and another.
