I am a CELTA and TEFL-certified teacher and Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar, third-culture Kid and writer who has been bitten by the travel bug and ignited by building compassionate, sustainable and empowered communities through service learning, art and experiential education.
I believe students learn best when they are having fun and feel like they are genuinely cared about. Since 2009, I have taught English from K - 12 and college students in Hong Kong, China, Thailand and Hawaii. This year, I was blessed to spent my time teaching and planning activities with k - high school children and adults in the YMCA A+ program, designing and implementing English curriculum for international students with the Intercultural Communications College and one on one and group tutoring at a learning center in Hawaii. I enjoy traveling, volunteering, serving, exploring, being in nature and am pursuing a career that allows me to combine teaching with social justice. It is rewarding to help students succeed, appreciate the learning journey and take pride in their accomplishments. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
