I am a native Japanese tutor completely bi-lingual and bi-cultural and have been trained in teaching Japanese to non-Japanese students. I have been teaching in both Seattle and the Eastside for the last 12 years.
I have students aging from 5 years old to professionals who want to live and work in Japan. Whether it be needing help with homework, preparing for school exams & JLPT, improving grades, or brushing up on conversation for an upcoming visit, I will cater to all levels, objectives and ages and prepare each lesson accordingly.
My method is to build, repeat, and apply with each lesson. I am friendly, patient and encouraging. Students enjoy the one on one attention where their questions are answered clearly and immediately. We can use the many textbooks and drill books I have to enhance comprehension.
I have a high retention and success rate. Join me in learning Japanese. You will be amazed at how much you will learn and improve! Fumiko has helped me learn Japanese to prepare for a trip I am taking to Japan. She was very helpful when it came to teaching the most important aspects and often had more advice/subjects to offer than the textbook I have been using to guide my studies. She also has helped a great deal when it comes to the actual travel aspects of my trip, such as how to find where to go in Japan's subway and train stations. I feel like Fumiko was able to accelerate my learning more than I had been able to do on my own!
A friend and I recently studied Japanese with Fumiko. We are beginner students and were looking to continue our studies after a group class we had attended became unavailable.
Fumiko was quickly able to get us back up to speed, revisiting materials we needed to review and even elaborating on some topics to improve our knowledge. She sent summaries of all of our lessons, calling out specific points to study or review in our materials. She also discussed any topics we were curious about or interested in, and even got us both started with reading and writing kanji.
Fumiko introduced us to new, helpful learning materials as we went, making it easier for us to learn. She was also very flexible, working with our schedules to arrange a convenient time and place to meet. Studying with Fumiko was fun and engaging; I learned a lot and also felt encouraged to keep learning.
If you're studying Japanese, I highly recommend Fumiko!
She help me with basic review of essential greetings and numbers. She worked hard to make sure I didn't feel uncomfortable about not meeting my own expectations.
Fumiko is of course very skilled in her abilities to teach Japanese to students with a myriad of approaches to learning the language. She emphasizes focus on reading and speaking the language because exposure to reading and reading aloud is one of the best ways to become fluent in a language. On top of this, she is very careful about pointing out small mistakes that might go otherwise unnoticed, which is incredibly important for students looking to learn to read, speak, and write like a native. Aside from her teaching prowess, Fumiko is incredibly patient and understanding of busy schedules and such. I took lessons with her for my entire first year of college during which Fumiko was quite cognizant and respectful of my work load. She also helped me locate good placed to meet to have lessons, which was especially useful for me, someone brand new to Seattle. Overall, Fumiko is an excellent and knowledgeable tutor whom I would recommend to anyone wishing to take private Japanese lessons in the Seattle area. :)
My 10th grade daughter has been studying with Fumiko for about a year now as a way to continue her Japanese studies since she transferred to a new school. Fumiko has been consistently great to work with. She's a very conscientious, caring, and thorough instructor. My daughter enjoys lessons with her, and I could not ask for a better private tutor. Thank you Fumiko!
Fumiko is a wonderful teacher who truly cares about her students’ learning. I can trust her to correct me when I make the smallest mistakes; when going through the workbook, I may say the wrong particle very quickly, but she notices and fixes it. I am glad that I have a teacher who can give me the guidance needed to work through difficult concepts while understanding and remembering it as well.
Pacing for our lessons has been quick and has been pushing me to continue focusing on self study. We review about 30-40% of the previous lesson and push forward with a good amount of new content and it gives me enough time to feel more confident with what I have learned in previous lessons.
Fumiko G. has been tutoring my 12 year old daughter in Japanese over the summer. She is patient, organized and knowledgeable. I especially like that she gives me a useful summary after each lesson. My daughter recently told me she wishes school was as fun as her Japanese lessons with Fumiko. I recommend her wholeheartedly.
Fumiko G. cares about my student and is helping him tremendously. Her organized, thoughtful approach has helped him considerably. She has made the difference between my son struggling and my son understanding. Fumiko truly cares about her students and we are so grateful for her teachings. Thank you Fumiko!
She has done a great job identifying areas of improvement and concepts I need to work on while maintaining a very positive atmosphere conducive to learning. In addition to that, she has been flexible in developing the session content to reflect that when it is encountered. Highly recommended, looking forward to more lessons with her.
Fumiko is an excellent tutor. She is patient, fun, smart and contemporary. She inspires me to work hard, practice and not give up. Highly recommend!
Fumiko is a great Japanese tutor. She comes to our office and does a beginner and intermediate class for 5 or so employees. We have had a great time working with her and would recommend her to anyone looking to learn Japanese. She's very kind and patient and has excellent English skills which helps when trying to learn a foreign language.
I thought her use of playing "Go Fish" was a brilliant and fun way of learning to count in Japanese.
It's a bit nerve racking trying to pick a good tutor for your child, let alone doing it on-line. I've never needed to do anything like this before and our son was in need of filling in a whole year of Japanese language lessons in one summer. I find myself surprised in saying I truly couldn't be happier. Fumiko was spot on time at every lesson (even when we, at times, were not). She was always positive, encouraging, and extremely knowledgeable. She was happy to try and work around our schedules and needs. Fumiko - Doomo arigatoo gozaimasu.
A true pleasure working with you.
Ms. G. is an excellent teacher. She, being a native speaker who still visits Japan, has a mastery of the language as is it is used by real people in the present day. We focus on the most polite form of the language, but she can also tell you how you would phrase some statements differently if you were relaxing with friends. Another thing that I really like about Ms. G. is that she can break down phrases or words into the smaller words that that they are made of so that you can truly understand what you're saying. In addition to knowledgeable, she is also friendly and encouraging. I am glad to have her as my teacher.
We had an excellent lesson! She kept my son interested and was very patient. We can't wait to meet again.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
