I am a full-time tutor with over 10 years of experience tutoring students from 1st-grade level up to college level in Honolulu and online. I tutor a multitude of subjects, including English reading and writing, geometry, algebra, trigonometry, geography, and standardized tests, such as the ACT, SSAT, and ASVAB. I also help students to overcome learning obstacles on their way to acquiring specific skills. My focus is on understanding each student's own learning goals and how he or she likes to work. Instruction is designed around each individual student's specific goals and needs.

I graduated cum laude from Loyola University New Orleans with a Bachelor's degree in Communications in 2006. I have tutored gifted students, failing students in need of remedial tutoring, working adults, and ESL students. I speak some Cantonese, Spanish, and Mandarin as well.

When meeting in person, we can meet at any quiet indoor location, such as students' homes, fast-food restaurants, and coffee shops. My travel radius is east to Hawaii Kai, west to Aiea, and windward to Kailua. If I had to travel outside of that radius to meet the student, then I would have to charge extra, depending on exactly how much farther I would have to drive. I work seven days a week, preferably between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m.

I have a 1.5-hour in-person session minimum. The average session length (both online and in-person) is 2 hours, but I have gone as high as 4 hours per session. I also require 24-hour notice before a scheduled session is to be canceled or rescheduled for non-emergency reasons. If the student(s) is absent or unable to make the scheduled session for non-emergency reasons and 24-hour notice was not given, then the scheduled session will be charged at its usual rate as if it had occurred in its entirety.

If you are interested in my help, then please contact me about the Student's Learning Needs, Grade Level, Where You Would Like To Meet, and Preferred Day of Week and Time, and I will get back to you about when I'm available.

Great job!

He started with teaching grammar and was very helpful! He also asked my son when he planned on taking his test to help format the lessons. He had good structure and explained things well according to my son.

Knowledgeable and Patient

My son struggles with Math. Transitioning from a public elementary to a private middle school has not been easy for him. Thomas is providing him with the tools needed to help him succeed in Pre-algebra. My son was against a tutor, upon meeting Thomas he is very comfortable. I highly recommend Thomas as a tutor to anyone needing that extra push and help.

RENE, 19 lessons with Thomas

Great first session

For our first session Thomas assessed my son to see where he was about his understanding of the mathematical concepts. Once he got a better idea of how much my son knew he was able to work with my son teaching him the concepts he needed to know to complete his assignment. My son really likes being tutored by Thomas stating that "he is really smart." So far so good.

Very patient.

Thomas is able to help our son with his education in a manner that we as parents can't. He is patient with him and seems to know whether our son grasps the material or not and what to do and say to help him. Having Thomas in our home once a week for a few hours has been a gift to our whole family!

The best math tutor ever

Thomas has been working with my daughter for only a few short weeks. When he first began, her class was already 3/4 of the year into Algebra 2, and she had only had 2 weeks of classroom time. Now, after about eleven (11) sections, she has not only caught up with her class, but have gone ahead of her class. Thomas is very dedicated to making sure that each subject is taught thoroughly and he will not move on until the student has had a good grasp on that topic. He has been a god sent for us. Thank you so very much Thomas.
